About The Hamilton Skating Club

Welcome Message from Hamilton Skating Club

Welcome to the Hamilton Skating Club! The Hamilton Skating Club is a non-profit organization, sanctioned by Skate Canada and is primarily operated and governed by volunteers. Our skating and off ice programs are designed and delivered by our highly experienced professional coaching staff.

We hope to provide quality skating opportunities to help each skater develop their passion for skating and to achieve personal success in a friendly, safe and fun environment. We have programs from CanSkate (Skate Canada's “learn to skate”) to CanPower (hockey skills skating) to Recreational and Competitive Figure Skating (STARSkate and CompetitiveSkate).

Hamilton Skating Club Vision Statement

A commitment to growing, developing, and meeting the needs of all skaters, all levels, and all abilities in a positive and productive environment.

About HSC

We kicked off our 75th Anniversary with an amazing Gala and Ice Show on Sat Apr 6, 2013. We officially celebrate our 75th in Oct 2013. The past 75 years at the Hamilton Skating Club has seen many highlights. We have had several skaters reach the sectional, provincial, national and international podium (World's and Olympic's).

In more recent times the Hamilton Skating Club has had staff member, Lynda Thompson our CanSkate Coordinator, become the recipient of the prestigious Skate Canada award for ”Best of the Best“ in Canada for CanSkate program delivery. This award was presented to Lynda at the Skate Canada AGM in Regina in June of 2008.

The 2008-2009 season marked the success of the Hamilton Skating Club being presented with the Skate Canada resident's Challenge by having the greatest increase in Recreational membership within Western Ontario. This accolade was acknowledged at both the Western Ontario AGM in London and Skate Canada's AGM in Edmonton in June of 2009.

In 2010 we saw Canada host the Olympics in Vancouver. The Hamilton Skating Club was proud to be represented at the games by our very own Bryce Davison with his partner (at the time) Jessica Dube in the Pairs event. Bryce has remained a proud Hamilton Skating Club member even though his training took place in Quebec and Alberta. Bryce continues to support the development of our future competitive skaters in Hamilton as our Director of Skater Development.

In the 2011 - 2012 season, Bryce Davison has joined our team as our Director of Skater Development. In July 2011, Skate Canada issued a Press Release “Canadian Champion and World Medalist Bryce Davison moves on to next phase of figure skating career” on Bryce's transition from competitive skater to coach. Press Release Extract ”Davison has returned to his roots in Hamilton, and has already started to coach at the club he represented since the age of seven, the Hamilton Skating Club. He's excited about encouraging more boys to take up the sport. ”Figure skating has been such a big part of my life, and it has offered me so many opportunities. I combined figure skating and hockey until I was 15, playing rep hockey up to bantam. But I really love figure skating, and would like to help more boys see it as a sport they want to pursue. It's my opportunity to give something back to the sport I love.”

In the 2013-2014 season Paul MacIntosh joined our team

Paul comes to us with over 27 years of coaching experience along with his recent Level 5 certification which is the highest within the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Paul was the 11th figure skating coach to reach Level 5 certification; and there are only approximately 100 coaches across all sports in Canada certified at this level. Paul MacIntosh has coached many skaters to the national and international levels in his coaching career. His past skaters include Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (the 2010 Olympic Champions, coaching them to their 1st international competition and junior world's) , as well as coaching Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje to their 1st World Championships. He is also on Skate Canada's Coaching Committee and is a qualified Level 2 & 3 coaching instructor (teaching 10 - 15 sessions a year). Paul's duties will include strategic development for the club across all levels of skating from recreational to competitive including enhancing our relationship and profile with the City of Hamilton. Paul will also be working with Bryce Davison, Director of Skater Development (& 2-time Olympian and 2008 World's Bronze Medalist with former partner Jessica Dub), to create a multi-faceted club/school which will include all disciplines in the future and attract/increase male skater membership. Initially Paul will be with us one day per week and working up to increased daily activities. He will be working with HSC skaters on basic skating skills and stroking.
